Maydin Sipayung holds a degree in Mining Metallurgical Engineer from the Bandung Institute of Technology, ITB (1986) and Master of Business Administration from School of Business and Management, ITB (2002) as well as Master of Energy Economics from Faculty of Economics,

University of Indonesia (2007). Doctor of Business Management from the Graduate School of  Business of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in Bogor (2012).

He began his carrier in 1987 as the Junior Researcher in the Mining Metallurgy Research Centre Operation Department of Freeport Indonesia, Irian Jaya. In 1989 he moved to Astra Group as Department Head of Production Planning & Control and in 1990 promoted to Marketing Manager. In 1993 he moved to PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam Tbk (Persero) as Staff of Technical Director and in 1994 promoted to Marketing Development Manager for Coal Briquette Development Project until 2001. Before he resigned voluntarily from PT Bukit Asam Tbk in 2004, the last position was Senior Staff Marketing.

Since February 2006, he is the Managing Director of PT Coalindo Energy and become the CEO of PT Coalindo Energy since July 2011 until now, a joint venture company with Argus Media Limited (London) for developing Indonesia Coal Index (ICI).

Maydin Sipayung  joined PT Indeks Komoditas Indonesia as President Director since 2017.
